Beyond the Ordinary Experiences
Curated Journeys for the Palate, The Body, and the Spirit
Experiences at Tsholo
In the Black Rhino Game Reserve, your days are shaped by the rhythm of the bush: set off on early-morning and late-afternoon game drives through rugged volcanic hills, rocky outcrops, and open plains, then return to slow, scenic downtime in between.
Expect sundowners with wide views, unhurried boma dinners under the stars, and plenty of quiet moments at the lodge where you can listen for the night sounds and watch the bush come alive. For guests who want to go deeper, guided bush walks (where available) add a more intimate perspective—tracking smaller signs, learning about plants and birds, and experiencing the reserve at ground level.
Pilanesberg
Big 5 Safaris
Big 5 safaris in Black Rhino are all about the thrill of the search and the payoff of close, respectful sightings in a less crowded setting.
With access to the greater Pilanesberg ecosystem, game drives can deliver iconic encounters—from elephant herds and buffalo on the move to the adrenaline of following fresh lion or leopard tracks—while your guide reads the landscape and connects the dots between spoor, calls, and behavior.
Every drive is different, but that’s the magic: you’re not ticking boxes, you’re following the story of the wild as it unfolds, with the chance of Big 5 moments around any bend in the road.
Relax & Unwind at the
Amani Spa
Suspended within the canopy of the Tambotie forest, Amani Spa at Tsholo is a sanctuary designed for deep restoration and quiet renewal.
Set within a beautifully considered structure, the spa is thoughtfully positioned to capture sweeping views across the northern reaches of the Pilanesberg mountain range. Here, nature becomes an integral part of the experience — ever present, calming, and restorative, framed by the surrounding Tambotie forest.
In collaboration with Amani Spa, a bespoke wellness journey has been curated exclusively for Tsholo. Every element has been thoughtfully crafted to encourage balance, release, and reconnection — guided by the rhythms of the bush and the principles of holistic wellbeing.
Signature treatments draw on Amani’s renowned expertise, combining skilled touch with carefully selected products to nurture both body and mind. Whether enjoyed between game drives or as a dedicated wellness ritual, each experience invites you to slow down, breathe deeply, and fully surrender to the moment.
This is a place to rise above the everyday — and return renewed.
Fine Dining at
Tsholo Safari Lodge
Dining is a celebration of South Africa’s rich culinary heritage. Menus are created in-house by our own chefs and paired with award-winning wines from our cellar — seasonal, unhurried, and built around what the day has been.
What changes here is not only what’s on the plate but where you eat it. Breakfast might be taken on the deck as the bush warms up; lunch beside the pool; dinner around the fire under the stars. Nothing is fixed. Tell us how you’d like the day to run, and we’ll set the table accordingly.
The Restaurant
The heart of the lodge, and a room built for two very different kinds of day.
In summer, the restaurant opens up entirely onto the deck. Doors fold back, the line between inside and out disappears, and lunch stretches into the afternoon with the bushveld a few paces away and nothing but birdsong for background. In winter the same room draws in: the large fireplace is lit, the light drops low, and dinner becomes a long evening in good chairs with a glass of something red — the kind of warmth that makes people stay at the table well after the plates are cleared.
Seasonal à la carte menus are served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with the full group comfortably seated. Dietary requirements are catered for with advance notice.
The Upper Deck
Elevated above the lodge with the Pilanesberg laid out in front of it, the upper deck is set for sundowners every evening as the light goes. Drinks from the bar, something to pick at, and the half-hour when the reserve changes colour. It doubles as a fine spot for a late breakfast or a quiet afternoon coffee.
Poolside
Long lunches, cold drinks and the afternoon between game drives. Poolside dining is the most relaxed of the lodge’s settings — a lighter menu, no need to change, and a swim within reach when the heat builds.
The Viewing Decks
Three elevated viewing decks look out over the bushveld, and any one of them can be set for a meal. A private breakfast before the morning drive, a tea break, canapés before dinner — or simply somewhere to sit with a coffee and watch what comes down to drink.
From the Cellar
An award-winning cellar of South African wines underpins everything that leaves the kitchen. Our team will pair by the glass across a menu, or open something worth lingering over — and are just as happy to talk you through the estates behind it.
Private Dining
Every setting at Tsholo can be taken privately. Anniversaries, proposals, family celebrations and business dinners are set up wherever suits the occasion best — on a viewing deck, at the boma fire, or in the restaurant with the doors open to the night. Speak to us before you arrive and we’ll arrange it.
Dine Under the Stars
The Boma
Open-air dining around the fire, beneath a sky with nothing in the way of it. The boma is where the day’s stories get told properly — a traditional South African evening of grilled and slow-cooked dishes, lanterns, and the sounds of the reserve close by.
For most guests it’s the meal they describe first when they get home.
